Dr. Hayden

Curtis Hayden, D.D.S., P.A.

Dr. HaydenI was born in El Paso, Texas, and am the son of a career Army family that had 19 different addresses before I turned 21!  We lived in Texas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Arizona, and Germany prior to my parents retiring in California. I graduated with honors from Pasadena High School where I was a high school All-American in swimming and water polo and ranked in the top 25 in the world in middle distance freestyle and individual medley events. At Princeton University, I majored in geology and was the co-captain of the swimming team and a two-time NCAA Division I All-American, winning eight individual Eastern Seaboard titles in four years.

Following a career in the United States Navy that took my wife, Eileen, all over the world, we chose Manhattan, Kansas as home to raise our four children, Zane, Hanna, Xavier and Blaise. It's a wonderful community to be part of, and we're extremely fortunate to be in Manhappiness and the Flint Hills of Kansas!

I have an ongoing passion for dentistry and especially the specialty of orthodontics. Excellence in treatment, esthetics and function in a caring environment is my goal, and I personally see each patient with the help of an outstanding and friendly staff. After graduating from Princeton University, I received my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the School of Dental Medicine at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.  I received my post-doctoral Specialty Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics after completing the U.S. Army Orthodontic Residency Program at Fort Meade, Maryland while on active duty in the United States Navy Dental Corps. I am Board Certified by the American Board of Orthodontics and a Diplomate of that professional organization, a distinction fewer than 30% of active orthodontic specialists attain. I am continually reviewing evidenced-based literature and incorporating the newest technology and equipment into our practice in order to maintain the highest quality of care. As a Special Consultant in Orthodontics to the American Academy of Dental Sciences, I am committed to lifelong learning and have accumulated over 3000 hours of continuing education since graduating from dental school.

Prior to becoming an orthodontist, I received my first post-doctoral Specialty Certificate in Comprehensive Dentistry where he finished first in his class and became a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. His extensive clinical experience with restorative techniques, crowns and bridges, root canals, TMJ therapy, gum surgery, and the extraction of wisdom teeth allows him to communicate effectively with referring dentists for more comprehensive and coordinated treatment plans.  In 2020, I received Board Certification by the American Association of Dental Sleep Medicine to become one of only a few dentists to be Board Certified in both Orthodontics and Dental Sleep Medicine.

My community involvement includes:

I am an experienced dentist who has provided quality dental care to numerous beneficiaries world-wide during my time serving in the United States Navy. Virginia, Maine, New Hampshire, California, New Zealand, Antarctica, Maryland, Japan and Spain are some of the interesting places I have lived and practiced dentistry and orthodontics. My final tour in the military was as the Program Director for the Tri-Service Orthodontic Residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas, where I was responsible for the professional training and development of 26 residents who have in turn have become outstanding orthodontists.  During that time I was also the Specialty Leader for Navy Orthodontists and Special Consultant to the Surgeon General of the Navy.

Being part of orthodontics and seeing the positive changes that change people's lives has made it all worthwhile.  It's been a great career and I am truly thankful for all the wonderful people I've met along the way!
